A lucky day for Riverhead Police detective

Luck was on the side of a Riverhead Police detective who won $10,000 from the New State Lottery last week.

Detective Evelyn Hobson-Womack, the mentor for the town’s youth court and the department’s first black policewoman, purchased the winning Mega Millions ticket at Bapa Card and Gift on Route 58 in Riverhead.

The drawing was held April 26.

Ms. Hobson could not immediately be reached for comment.

The New York Lottery is North America’s largest cash lottery, contributing over $3 billion annually to help support education in New York, state lottery officials said.
