Slide Show: Cruise night returns to Riverhead

05/06/2011 8:05 AM |

The first weekly “cruise night” of the season, where people come from all over to show off their classic wheels, was held in the Peconic River parking lot Thursday. The event, which is sponsored by the Riverhead Business Improvement District Management Association, features coups, convertibles and roadsters from past decades and late models as well.

The gathering had been taking place for years in the King Kullen shopping center parking lot in Wading River, but the group was asked to vacate the strip mall there just days after a feature story appeared in the News-Review. Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter then invited the car lovers to downtown Riverhead. They obliged, and the event grew from there.

  • It’s wonderful that Walters put his stamp of opproval on a car cruse for RHT!This has been an on going ritual for thousands of “car”guys for over 50 years that I know of.The large majority of the attendees do the “cruse” thing because their is NOWHERE to legally go to shoe off one’s power and ability to accelerate. That brings us to the next topic which is ILLEGAL STREET RACING.Now I’m NOT saying that the crusers are street racers, but the street racers cruse to meet other street racers.NOW,if RHT had the smarts to open the exsisting runrays at the ex-Navy facility in Calverton,it would be a WIN_WIN situation and a VERY INTELLIGENT political choice. It would save MANY lives!!!!!The Candidate that can gaurantee Motorsports use at EPCAL will get my vote!!!!!These upcomong Elections will be very interesting for sure!!
