Leonard H. Charnelle

Leonard H. Charnelle died unexpectedly on May 8, 2011, at the age of 84.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan, and grandson, Marshall, of Washington, D.C.; his brother, Alan (Anne), of California; his dog, Pretzel; and countless patients, doctors and medical staffs with whom he championed throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Phyllis Tick Charnelle; his in-laws, Edna and Irving Tick; and his parents, Fannie and Charles Charnelle.

Dr. Charnelle was an active member of the medical staff at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for three decades and, recently, the staff at Peconic Bay Medical Center. For the last year he had worked pro bono at United Comprehensive Care in Riverhead, which serves indigent clients.

Services will be private; a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Ave atque vale, o meus pater.
