Aquebogue man held on rape charge

An  investigation into a domestic incident over the weekend led to the arrest of a 50-year-old Aquebogue man on a rape charge, Southold Town police reported.

In addition to one count of third-degree rape, Jeffrey Ireland, who was arrested at his home just after 6 p.m. Saturday, faces charges of first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal trespass.

Police gave no additional information other than to say the arrest followed an incident in Southold Town.

Mr. Ireland was being held in the Suffolk County jail in Riverside in lieu of $25,000 bail.
