Kevin D. Stakey
Kevin D. Stakey of Laurel died suddenly on May 13 in Stony Brook. He was 50.
He was born Feb. 18, 1961, in Riverhead, to Roy F. and Marjorie (Bakowski) Stakey. He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1979 and, on June 1, 1986, married Catherine F. Sydlowski at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck.
He was a building contractor and the owner of Glastar, Ltd. According to family members, he loved the outdoors and tending to his garden, and also enjoyed fixing things around the home. His real passion was being with his family, they said, and he was a loving husband and father.
Mr. Stakey is survived by his wife and his children, Laura and Andrew, of Laurel; his father, of Aquebogue; and his brother, Jim Ryan, of Berkeley Heights, N.J. He was predeceased by his mother on April 11, 2007, and his son Stephen on May 2, 2008.
Family will received friends Tuesday, May 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt will officiate with the assistance of the Ministry of Consolation. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
