Flanders: Activities at Crohan Community Center

Tanya Doherty

Can you believe it’s Memorial Day weekend, friends and neighbors? I can’t. I also can’t believe that my firstborn will be graduating from high school next month. It seems like only yesterday I was registering him for kindergarten and here he is graduating. I also remember him coming home on that first day of kindergarten and asking me how many more days of school were left. I told him 180 times, 13 years, and I remember thinking “boy, this is going to take forever.” Time has a funny way of lurching forward when you least expect it. A chapter is ending and a new one is starting. What an exciting time for him and for me.

The David Crohan Community Center will be hosting a flea market on Saturday, June 18 (times to be announced next week). If anyone is interested in renting a table, please all Ruth at 702-2375 for more information.

An invitation is always extended to all the seniors in the community to come to the center weekdays to enjoy the many activities offered such as line dancing, exercise classes, computer lessons and art classes. There’s even a pool table. Lunch is served daily for a $3 donation. If you’ve never been to the center, what are you waiting for? Transportation is also available if you can’t drive. Call Ruth for more information on how to arrange a ride.

Lordy, Lordy, look who’s 40! Happy birthday to former Flanders resident Mike Mujsce, who will celebrate on May 29, from your sons, Tim and Andrew, your sister, Kim, her husband, Mike, their son, Ryan, your brother, Richie, all of us here at my house, and all your friends and family. We hope you have a wonderful weekend and a wonderful birthday. Enjoy!

Riverhead High School’s Class of 1986 is planning a huge event to celebrate 25 years on Aug. 27 at Eagle’s Landing in Calverton. If you are not on the list please call or email me with your contact information as soon as possible so that I can pass it along to the committee. They want to make sure no one is left out. If you know of someone who does not live in the area and may not see this column, please let them know what’s going on.

Get well wishes and lots of hugs and love to everyone’s buddy Spencer Shea, who just had another surgery last Friday to correct some vision problems. We hope you’re feeling better, Spencer, and we hope this is the last surgery you’ll need for a very lo-o-ong time. Stay strong, Spencer!

Due to the holiday on Monday, next week’s column is due tomorrow, Friday, May 27. So if you have anything you’d like me to mention in the column please call or email me as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a wonderful weekend, drive safely and slowly, and please don’t drink and drive.
