Cops: Riverhead man found hiding in dumpster after burglary

A Riverhead man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly broke into a Shinnecock Hills restaurant and was found hiding in a nearby dumpster, Southampton Town Police said.

Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Cabana Latina restaurant on Montauk Highway about 2 a.m. A police officer arrived at the scene and found that someone had forced his way into the building.

Police soon found 27-year-old Alberto Hernandez-Hernandez hiding in the dumpster along with the cash register drawer taken from the building.

Mr. Hernandez-Hernandez was charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was held overnight for an appearance in Southampton Town Justice Court and is being held at the Suffolk County jail on $8,000 bail.
