Aquebogue-Jamesport: Pew restoring at Meeting House

I heard from Richard Wines of the Jamesport Meeting House this past weekend. He has very good news regarding the pew restoration. The Adopt a Pew campaign has been very successful. All the pews have been adopted and the beautiful, new moss green cushions have been ordered and will be delivered some time in July.
Richard invites the entire community to come out this Saturday, June 11, for Pew Restoration Day at the Meeting House. The next step in the restoration of the 150-year-old pews includes scraping, sanding, washing, priming and painting them. Community volunteers will need to remove the pews and carry them outside for work. Along the way, some minor repairs need to be done to restore them. Richard writes: “Just as the pioneers of Riverhead Town came together in 1731 to cart the stones and cut the timbers for the building, the community will come together at the Jamesport Meeting House. This will be an opportunity to work together with your neighbors just as our predecessors did 278 years ago on their very first public effort.”

The work will begin 9 a.m. and breakfast snacks, beverages and lunch will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, scrapers and paintbrushes. Please let Richard know if you are able to bring tools to share with those who can’t bring their own. For questions and more information, contact Richard Wines at 722-5170 or email him at [email protected].

Also on June 11, at 11 a.m. Martha Clara Vineyards will be sponsoring the “Vines and Canines Vineyard Walk.” Bring your dogs and enjoy an educational walk through the vineyards with winemaker Juan Micieli-Martinez and his dog, Satchmo. A donation of a nonperishable pet food item is requested to be donated to select animal shelter foundations.

North Fork birding expert Jody Levin will lead the search for late spring birds through the woods and fields surrounding Hallockville on Sunday, June 12, at 9 a.m. Registration is required. Call 298-5292 or email [email protected]. The fee is $5 for Hallockville members, $6 for nonmembers.
Join the Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association for a meeting Sunday, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Angela De Vito’s house, 121 Green St., South Jamesport. A light continental breakfast will be served. The association is hoping to see many of our summer members.

I would like to invite any member of the local community who wishes to support the special education students in RCSD to attend the newly formed Special Education PTA at Riverhead Library on Wednesday, June 15, at 7 p.m. Officers will be elected at this meeting; $5 membership dues per person will also be collected. For more information, contact Arlene Gagliano: 793-9549, [email protected]; or Lori Marin: 873-5223, [email protected].

I love being outside this time of year, walking the dogs, riding bikes with Johanna and working in the garden. I hope you enjoy this beautiful weather and have a lovely week!
