Photos and Video: Riverhead students raise nearly $3,000 for Michael Hubbard

Riverhead High School sophomores raised nearly $3,000 during a car wash to benefit 14-year-year Michael Hubbard who was badly burned in a gel candle accident last month.

About 30 students in history teacher Patrick Burke’s classes spent Friday washing cars in the Jiffy Lube parking lot on Route 58. The total money raised was $2,954.16 which included $167.50 in student donations.

Mr. Burke could not estimate how many cars rolled through the car wash, but said many people gave more than the suggested $5 for a car or $10 for an SUV.

“We had people who were paying 40 dollars for a car wash,” he said.
