Riverhead: Library doings and sto lat! to a 99-year-old

Mary Stravinski turns 99 years old on July 20 and will celebrate her special day with family and friends. Mary has been residing in her home in Riverhead since 1963. She enjoys reading newspapers, stretching every morning by doing chair exercises and giving advice to young people. Her parents were farmers in Jamesport. Mary, who also had a career at the County Center, said she is looking forward to her 100-year celebration. She is truly one extraordinary woman. Sto lat!

Friends of Riverhead Free Library are always seeking new members who would love to volunteer. For more information on how you can help out at the Yellow Barn, stop by the library’s welcome desk, call 727-3228 or visit the Yellow Barn on Mondays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The library will host “book events” throughout the summer, including the popular “Booked for Lunch,” scheduled for Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. beginning July 8 and running through Aug. 26. Bring your lunch and join the adult reference librarians as they introduce some of the latest books, both fiction and nonfiction, that are available for checkout. This program will be held outdoors; inclement weather brings it inside. Sign-up is not required.
