Aquebogue-Jamesport: Fire department bazaar starts July 19

Tonight is the fundraising event for the IRIE Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program, hosted at Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center (formerly known as Atlantis Marine World) from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include dinner, music and a fun evening at the aquarium. Located on Reeves Ave. in Riverhead, IRIE is open to adults and children with special needs, ages 18 months and up. The program operates on a sliding scale and is staffed by trained instructors and volunteers from the local community. This community outreach extends support for people with disabilities, especially children. Joy Rootkowski is a great lady who is a person of talent and heart. Call her at 871-1916 for more information and to purchase tickets.

The annual bazaar at Jamesport Fire Department begins Tuesday, July 19, and runs through Saturday, July 23.The parade is Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. and begins at Washington Ave. Johanna and I will be there with our CCI dogs. We all love a parade. Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, the 23rd, at 10 p.m. My kids are inviting their friends and we plan to hang out in the backyard to watch the fireworks. The carnival will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Hope to see you there.

I really don’t want to think about August right now, as three of my four kids will be off to school. But it is good to plan ahead, especially if you are training for Jamesport Fire Department’s Sound to Bay 10K Run on Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. Preregistration is open now and is $20 before Aug. 22. The first 400 registrants will receive a T-shirt. Email Robert Sikora at [email protected] or call 631-807-4055 for registration and information.

Hallockville Museum Farm will hold its annual barn dance on Saturday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. Chart Guthrie will call the dance with music provided by the Dance All Night band. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner. Soda, wine, and beer will be available for purchase. Casual attire is recommended. Tickets are available at the door or by calling Hallockville, 298-5292. Cost: $20 for the general public; $15 for Hallockville members; and $5 for children under 12. Proceeds support programming at Hallockville.

On July 31 at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service, First Parish Church parishioners will host a special service featuring selections written by a community of writers. A book-signing and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall will follow. Then, at 3 p.m. across the street at The Grange, a reception and book-signing will be hosted and a free-will offering will be accepted to support the “Save The Grange” campaign.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on July 12. We renewed our vows at Mass at Our Lady of the Island Shrine and hosted a fun picnic celebration with friends and family. Happy anniversary, Steve — my husband and my friend.
