Chester F. Borawa

Riverhead native Chester F. Borawa of Sun City Center, Fla., died June 27 at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center. He was 90.

Born April 4, 1921, in Riverhead, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with the Flying Tigers, China-Burma-India Order of Battle and Hump Pilot Association, then worked as an administrative clerk at General Electric until his retirement.

Mr. Borawa was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center.

He is survived by his wife, Dora, of Sun City Center; his sons Charles, of Charlotte, N.C., James, of Ashville, N.C., Mark, of Central Bridge, N.Y., and Roger Van Derwerken of Quantico, Va.; his daughters, Joyce Sharifi of Torrance, Calif., and Alice Van Derwerken of Rome, Maine; his sister, Valerie Thompson of Spring, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated July 1 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment with military honors was at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
