Terese McDowell

Terese McDowell of Calverton died on July 5, 2011, at the age of 78.

Born in Queens, New York, June 6, 1933, to Rose and Edward Opladen, she married Edmund McDowell on March 10, 1950, in Austin, Texas.

She had been the Director of Religious Education of Eastern Long Island for the Diocese of Rockville Centre and was a communicant of St. John’s R.C. Church in Riverhead and St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.

Terese traveled the world with her husband and family with the U.S. Air Force to England, Africa and various sections of the United States.

She is survived by her husband, Edmund; five children, Shaz McDowell of Ridge, Michael McDowell of New Port Richey, Fla., James McDowell of Seminole, Fla., Kate McDowell of Southold and Thomas McDowell of Clayton, N.C.; a brother, Birdy Selleck of Texas; and grandchildren Jason Green, Devin Hardmann, Matt McDowell, Zachery McDowell and Tyler McDowell; a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Green; and step-grandchildren Todd Brown, Tammy Brown, Kimberly McDowell and James McDowell.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, July 8, at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold by Fathers George Michell, Peter Garry, Kenneth Hand and Joseph Curley, with assistance from Deacons Thomas Gillen and Chris Vigliotta and the Ministry of Consolation.

Memorial donations to St. Patrick R.C. Church, P.O. Box 1117, Southold, NY 11971 would be appreciated.
