Aquebogue-Jamesport: Barn dance at Hallockville; 10K run in Jamesport

Little needs to be said about the Jamesport Fire Department Carnival, as it is now in full swing! But just a reminder that the carnival is open this weekend from 4 p.m. to midnight, with the fabulous fireworks display on Saturday at 10 p.m. Have fun and be safe!

There is still time to buy tickets for the Hallockville Museum Farm’s annual barn dance on Saturday, July 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m. If you attended before, you experienced the good time provided by Chart Guthrie calling the dances with music by the Dance All Night Band. As in other years, guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner. Soda, wine and beer will be available for purchase. Dress to dance! Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for an old-fashioned barn dance — of course hats and bandanas are encouraged! Tickets are available at the door or by calling Hallockville at 298-5292. The price is $20 for the general public, $15 for Hallockville members and $5 for children under 12. All proceeds support the educational programs at Hallockville Museum Farm.

I mentioned this special service to you last week; decide if you can come. On July 31 at the 10:30 Sunday worship service, First Parish Church parishioners will host a creative service featuring selections written by a community of writers. Following the service they will have a book signing and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.

I meet many neighbors out walking, running and riding bikes as I take my walks on Herricks Lane. Now is the time for some of us to train for the Jamesport Fire Department’s Sound to Bay 10K Run. I don’t run — that is, unless I am chasing after a puppy — but I do love my walks and bike rides in Jamesport. It is possible to walk the Sound to Bay Run. I did it a few years ago, and I won the honor of coming in last! If you are a walker or you love to ride your bike, consider joining the runners in this 10K to benefit the Jamesport Fire Department. The JFD Sound to Bay 10K is on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 9 a.m. Preregistration, now open, is $20 before Aug. 22. The first 400 are guaranteed a T-shirt! Contact Robert Sikora at [email protected] or call 807-4055 for registration and information.

Now for my favorite announcement of the week! The Jamesport Meeting House is sponsoring an old-fashioned fun community get-together Sunday, July 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. It’s the first ever ice cream social, featuring all-you-can-eat sundaes, old-fashioned lawn games and prizes! Tickets are $5 for children under 12 and $7 for adults. Sundaes on Sunday are a wonderful way to celebrate community and support The Jamesport Meeting House! There will be ice cream for all; hope to see you there!
