Russell Daniel Bartlette of Riverhead died July 18 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 70.

He was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Trenholm, Va., to Joseph and Alberta Bartlette and attended schools in Powhatan, Va., where he was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He moved to Riverhead in 1959 and married his childhood friend Audrey Taylor on Oct. 24, 1964.

Over the years, Mr. Bartlette worked at a duck processing plant, in a warehouse and at Northrop Grumman Corporation and was a bus driver for senior citizens in Riverhead Town.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Riverhead and belonged to Tyre Lodge 91 and F.&A.M. 36 Royal Arch Masons, both in Riverhead.

He enjoyed the sports of racing and wrestling, according to family, and loved to watch western movies. He was friendly and warm with a big smile, they said, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone.

Mr. Bartlette is survived by his wife and his daughter, Sharon, both of Riverhead; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A service was held July 25 at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, the Rev. Charles A. Coverdale officiating. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
