Calverton: BHCC chicken BBQ coming up

I’m a new step-mama. The baby mockingbirds have hatched in the engine of the tractor and all three are doing quite well. I am looking forward to the day they leave because I need the tractor! My friend Marge tells me that she has heard of quite a few people visiting the eye doctor due to bird peckings. Watch your eyes, my friends, as some birds become very defensive when they feel their young are in danger.

Don’t forget: John Neely’s photo exhibition on New Orleans begins Friday, Aug. 5 at Palmer Vineyards, with an opening reception from 5:30 till 7:30 p.m. Do try to stop by to see his talent, the show runs through Sept. 11.

The annual chicken barbecue at Baiting Hollow Congregational Church will take place Saturday, Aug. 6, at the church. It is so good, and they’d love to see you there. Takeout is available.

River Road welcomes a new baby boy and he is so cute. Wyatt Hartenstein was born on July 24 weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 19 3/4 inches. Shannon and Eric, our neighbors across the street from the farm, are the proud new parents. Wyatt’s big brother, Luke, is so excited and is the perfect big brother. There are no plans for a pony for Wyatt yet, but Luke might have to share his little Shetland for a bit. Congratulations! It’s so nice to have another little resident on our quiet road.

Belated birthday wishes to Manorville resident Kenny Martz, who celebrated July 28. Kenny turned 57 and he’s as funny as ever. We had a nice chat at the farm stand the other day and he is indeed the same Kenny we know and love. Hope you had a nice day!

Happy birthday to Cormac Orlowski, who will turn 4 on Aug. 10. Cormac is simply amazing — so smart, so cute and so strong. Best wishes from your mom and dad and little sister, Cayleigh, and all of us who know and love you. We wish you a very happy birthday, honey!

Birthday wishes to another cute, strong guy, Dr. Vic Grazina, who works with us at Dr. Bach’s office on Mondays and who celebrates his special day Aug. 12. Dr. Vic is not only a great orthodontist, but he’s a really nice guy who fits in very well with Dr. Bach and us wonderful girls. From all your family, friends and patients, we wish you a great birthday, Dr. Vic.

I’ve heard some complaints about peaches tasting junky. Of course I hopped right into the conversation and found out said peaches were bought at a grocery store. The solution? Buy local.
Have a great week, be safe and I shall talk to you next time. Bye.
