Truck spill causes sticky mess on East Main Street

East Main Street in Riverhead became a river of glue Thursday afternoon after a tractor trailer carrying the sticky substance hit a bump spilling it in the truck and onto the road.

Volunteers with the Riverhead Fire Department arrived on the scene and hosed the white adhesive down inside the truck, creating a stream flowing in front of the Riverhead Project restaurant, near the intersection with Maple Avenue.

Fire Chief Nick Luparella said the glue was non-hazardous. The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m.
