Code enforcers find 17 living in Flanders home

The owner of an overcrowded Flanders house was charged with a slew of violations Tuesday morning after code enforcement officials raided the house and found 17 people living there, including two families, Southampton Town officials said.

Five of seven bedrooms in the Silverbrook Drive home were deemed overcrowded and two families of four, each with two children, were living in the home. The remaining nine occupants were unrelated, town officials said.

Property owner Michael Dorazio of Hampton Bays was ticketed for not having smoke detectors, change of use, using extension cords as permanent wiring, not having a certificate of occupancy for a second kitchen, overcrowding, unpermitted electrical work, building without the proper permit and failing to maintain the property.

Code enforcement officials said 12 cars were parked outside the property when only eight are permitted under town code.
