Riverhead: Polish Festival Saturday and Sunday Aug. 20, 21

The Knights of Columbus, Riverhead Council, recently agreed to a request from Father Bob of St. Isidore Church to place windowpanes in each of the four doors leading into the church’s vestibule. However, the council went a step further. With Father Bob’s approval, members inserted stained-glass windows in each of the doors. They also refinished the wood and replaced all the trim and brass hardware. While passing by the church, check out the beautifully remade doors.

Congratulations to Becky and Jason Hubbard on the birth of their new son, Jason Jr., born on Aug.10 weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces. His two sisters, Erin and Casey Jo, can’t wait to play with their new little brother. Grandparents John and Roseanne Berezny and John and Theresa Hubbard are simply delighted with the new addition to the family.

Riverhead Free Library’s next book discussion will be “A Year in Provence,” by Peter Mayle, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. In this witty and warmhearted account, the author escapes Madison Avenue to realize his long-cherished dream of buying a farmhouse in a remote area of France and moving there with his wife. The library’s Adult Reference Department will also continue to host the popular summer program “Booked for Lunch” for two remaining Fridays, Aug.19 and Aug 26, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to bring a lunch and join the librarians as they introduce some of the latest books, both fiction and nonfiction. The program will be held outdoors, weather permitting, otherwise inside. Sign-up is not required.

The East End Dem Women’s kickoff event will be held this evening at RFL from 6 to 8:30 pm. This is a networking and skill-building group for democratic women and other women on the East End. The guest speakers will be Reina Schiffrin, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, and Lois Uttley, co-founder and president of Merger Watch. There will be light refreshments and networking. Men and women are invited. RSVP to [email protected] or Linda Hobson at [email protected].
