‘Boardwalk Empire’ scenes to be filmed in Wading River

Although Riverhead Town officials haven’t publicly disclosed where HBO’s smash hit Boardwalk Empire is going to be filmed in Riverhead Town, it would appear the stage is set for Lewin Farms off Sound Avenue in Wading River.

Signs are now posted at the farm that read “BE set” and direct “BE trucks” and “BE campers” down a long dirt road peppered with puddles that stretches through the property, though a Riverhead Police officer who was stationed at the farm Thursday said shooting has been postponed due to rain.

The shoot was scheduled to start Tuesday, according to the agreement Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter signed last week with Bootleg Productions.

The town will be paid $156 per hour for use of police personnel as security on the set and $10 per hour for use of a police vehicle, for a sum total of $2,823, the agreement reads.

“Boardwalk Empire,” which stars Nassau County-native Steve Buscemi and others, was nominated for 18 Emmy Awards, including best drama series, is about government corruption during the beginning of prohibition in Atlantic City in the 1920s.

Although the signs and police presence could indicate the show is indeed filming this week, popular website On Location Vacation, which publishes a running tally of film and TV shoot locations, reports the show is filming today, Thursday, at its traditional location, Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.
