Harold Young

Longtime Riverhead resident Harold Young, known as “Peanuts,” died Sept. 15 at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 89.

He was born in Riverhead on Nov. 5, 1921, to Ethielyn E. (Downs) and Harold W. Young.
He married Phyllis Oliver on Aug. 25, 1944, in Riverhead and was a farmer all his adult life.

He enjoyed farming, family members said, and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife; his daughters, Ethielyn, Phyllis, Patricia and Jenny; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchilden.

Visiting hours were Sept. 19 and a service was held Sept. 20 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Interment followed at Sound Avenue Cemetery.
