An 8-week long road work project is underway on West Main Street between the western portion of Route 58 and continuing five miles east.

Work on the current phase of the project will continue for the next four weeks, said state Department of Transportation spokesperson Eileen Peters.

During that time, workers will be stripping the surface of the road and replacing the top layer of asphalt, she said. Only the shoulder will be closed at the time, though Ms. Peters said to expect delays and use caution will driving.

Once that phase is completed, additional work will be performed and the road’s westbound lane will be closed weeknights from 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes during that time. A final two-week phase of the project will be performed after that.
