Today in sports: Are you ready for some football?

GARRET MEADE PHOTO | Riverhead senior Charles Bartlett scored 4 TDs against Hills West Saturday. How can he do today gainst Hills East?

It’s Wednesday, which can only mean one thing.

Football!

Yes, football.

Thanks to Rosh Hashanah, the Riverhead football team will host a rare Wednesday afternoon game at 2 p.m. today against Half Hollow Hills East. If you still haven’t caught your breath from Saturday’s win over Hills West, here’s a look back.

The Blue Waves come into today at 3-0 in Division II and tied for first place in power points with West Babylon. Newfield is the only other unbeaten left in Division II. Hills East enters today’s game at 2-1 and in seventh place.

Can the Blue Waves keep up their vaunted aerial and rushing attack that has combined to post 126 points in three games? Senior halfback Charles Bartlett has eight touchdowns in the last two games alone and will look to carry most of the ground load again.

Hills East gave up 47 points in its loss last week against North Babylon. Hills East opened the season with wins over Copiague and Centereach.

Be sure to check back tonight for full coverage from the Riverhead-Hills East football game.
