SUV, minibus collide in Walmart parking lot

VERA CHINESE PHOTO | There was one passenger in this bus for the developmentally disabled when it collided with an SUV Monday.

A disabled person was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center after a white minibus collided with an SUV outside WalMart in Riverhead Monday afternoon, police said.

That person, who was taken to the hospital for observations as per company protocol, was the lone passenger in a bus operated by the state’s chapter of The Arc, a nonprofit group that supports the developmentally disabled and their families, called NYSARC.

The two vehicles crashed about 2:15 a.m. in the Route 58 store’s parking lot.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was faulted in the crash.

The bus was towed from the scene.
