Riverhead man charged with DWI following crash
A Riverhead man was charged with DWI Sunday night after crashing his car in Watermill, Southampton Town Police said.
Jose Carabantes, 25, was heading east on Montauk Highway in his 2001 Mitsubishi sedan when swerved across the westbound lane and collided head on with a 1989 Chevy pickup truck, police said. Mr. Carabantes was found to be intoxicated, according to a police press release.
Both drivers were transported to Southampton Hospital.
Mr. Carabantes was released from the hospital with an appearance ticket. He will be scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
He was also charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to maintain a lane.
