Today in sports: First-place SWR field hockey team takes on Southampton

The first-place Shoreham-Wading River field hockey team will face a challenge today from Southampton in a Suffolk County Division III game at Shoreham-Wading River High School at 4:30 p.m. The Wildcats (9-1 overall) have won all eight division games they have played so far and lead the division with 149.310 power-rating points. Meanwhile, the Mariners (7-4, 5-4) are in fourth place with 122.420 power-rating points.

In the first meeting between the two teams on Sept. 22, Shoreham was a 5-1 winner with two goals and one assist from Alyssa Fleming and one goal and two assists from Kaitlyn Taddeo.

Offense hasn’t been a problem for the Wildcats this season. They have outscored opponents by 33-7.
