Online signups in the works for Riverhead recreation department

Riverhead Town is looking to add an online signup and payment system for its recreation department, officials said at Thursday’s public Town Board work session.

The town’s recreation department superintendent, Ray Coyne, said that he’s already put out a request for proposals, and that the winning bidder would charge the town an estimated $18,000 to install a program and the system’s server would cost about $3,000. Annual technical support would cost $4,500 he said.

“We’re making it easier for residents to sign up for programs,” he said.

He noted that program fees would not increase under the new system, which would be paid for with recreation program revenues.

“We are scheduled to have it go live Jan. 3 for winter registration,” Mr. Coyne later told the News-Review.

In the meantime, Town Board member Jodi Giglio suggested the town look into whether or not it could use Suffolk County’s payment method for signing up for recreation programs. Mr. Coyne said he would do that.
