Today in sports: Different goals for Riverhead, SWR

The second-place Shoreham-Wading River field hockey team is hot on the heels of Rocky Point, in pursuit of the Suffolk County Division III championship. Eighth-place Riverhead is trying to snag a playoff berth.
Both teams will try to further their aims when Riverhead (5-7, 5-6) plays in Shoreham (11-2, 10-1) today at 4 p.m.
Shoreham has won six of its last seven games, the most recent being a 1-0 defeat of Pierson/Bridgehampton on Friday on the strength of a Debi-Michelle Jantzen goal. Kendal Conway made five saves to post her eighth shutout for the Wildcats this season, according to Newsday.com.
Riverhead is coming off a tough 1-0 loss to Greenport/Southold/Shelter Island last Thursday. It wasn’t a good day for the Blue Waves, who were outshot, 11-2, and outplayed by the Clippers. Sarah Tuthill scored the game’s only goal 18 minutes 36 seconds into the game, knocking a rebound into an unguarded goal after goaltender Allison Doscinski had made three straight saves.
Shoreham was a 3-0 winner over Riverhead earlier this month. Kendal stopped 11 shots while Kaitlyn Taddeo, Alyssa Pearce and Alyssa Fleming supplied the goals, Newsday.com reported.
