John Ligon
John Ligon of Riverhead died Oct. 12 at the age of 61.
He was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Riverhead to Lucille Ligon and Melvin Jones, one of six children, and attended Riverhead schools.
Mr. Ligon worked at the Suffolk County Criminal Court Building in Riverhead and later as a custodian for several years before retiring.
He married Frances Bell on Sept. 4, 1978. They enjoyed singing gospel music together and performed at many concerts and church affairs, family members said.
Predeceased by his wife, Mr. Ligon is survived by his son, Jonathan, of West Hempstead; his brothers, Fred and Richard, both of Riverhead, and his sisters, Shirley, of Austell, Ga., and Rose Rita of Rockledge, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Viewing and a service took place Oct. 18 at Galilee Church of God in Christ, Riverhead, Pastor Roy L. Pennon Sr. and Pastor Everett Watson officiating. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
