The Riverhead Police Department wants you to take out expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs from your medicine cabinet and drop them off at police headquarters this Saturday.
“Prescription Drug Take Back Day,” aims to deter pill abuse and theft, police said. In addition, typical solutions of disposing unused meds, such as flushing them down the toilet, have been deemed an environmental safety hazard because they eventually seep into the area’s drinking water supply. Police said the medications collected will be taken to an off-site facility to be destroyed.
The event is free, anonymous and no questions will be asked, police said.
You can drop off your unused meds at police headquarters, located at 210 Howell Ave. in Riverhead, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call (631) 727-4500.
