Football: Newfield-Riverhead game postponed

Today was to be the final day of the high school football regular season in Suffolk County. Thanks to some persistent rain, though, the season has been extended at least another day.

The Division II game between Newfield and Riverhead that was scheduled for today at Coach Mike McKillop Memorial Field in Riverhead has been postponed. Riverhead coach Leif Shay said the field was unplayable because of rain.

The game has been rescheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. Fifth-place Newfield is 4-3, and second-place Riverhead is 6-1. It is the final regular-season game for both teams.
