A man was taken to the hospital after crashing his Ford Taurus into a guard rail on Hubbard Avenue in Riverhead at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday.

Riverhead Town police said the crash may have been the result of a medical condition.

“It appears he may have had a seizure, but we don’t want to speculate,” said patrol officer Mike Lojko.

Ed Wegley, 38, of Calverton was at his mother’s house on Hubbard Avenue when he saw the sedan crashed into the guard rail about a foot away from a station wagon parked on the property.

“I looked out the window and saw he was shaking and thought he might have been having a seizure, so I called them,” Mr. Wegley said, gesturing to three patrol officers who responded to the scene.
