A husband and wife who were motorcycling on Route 105 in Riverhead were hospitalized about noon Sunday after they crashed the bike just south of the Route 25 intersection, authorities said.

The husband was taken by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center, while the wife was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, according to firefighters at the scene.

The seriousness of their injuries was not immediately known, and the cause of the single-vehicle accident was still under investigation, police said.

At the scene of the accident on Route 105, a gold motorcycle was parked upright next to a drainage swale in the median, with two helmets placed on the ground not far from it.

Other motorcycles, which did not appear to be involved in the crash, were parked on the right hand side of the southbound lane.

Rescue personnel did not release the victims’ names.

The helicopter landed on the firefighter training grounds on Doctors Path, just south of Route 105.
