Health Beat: PBMC earns recognition for joint replacement excellence

• Peconic Bay Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Total Joint Replacement for Hip and Knee. The seal represents compliance with national standards for health care quality and safety. To earn the seal, PBMC had to undergo extensive on-site evaluation by the Joint Commission and demonstrate compliance with standards specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medical management.

• Family Service League is hosting a free workshop on legal issues for caregivers of people 60 and older. The program will take place at the Riverhead Legislative Auditorium, 300 Center Drive, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17. Funding for the program is provided by Suffolk County Office for the Aging and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the New York State Office for the Aging. Call 369-0104.
