Elizabeth Cora Lee Teague

Elizabeth Cora Lee Teague of Riverhead died Oct. 27 after a brief illness. She was 71.

She was born in Riverhead Jan. 1, 1940, to Frank and Estelle James. She joined First Baptist Church of Riverhead at a young age and, after graduating from Riverhead High School in 1957, began a career at the Westhampton Beach Air Force Base.

In 1970, she moved to Dover, Del., and became a deputy chief contracting officer at Dover Air Force Base, where she worked for 43 years. It was in Dover that she met her husband, J.C. Teague, whom she married April 29, 1972. She joined Calvary Baptist Church there in 1978, serving for many years as church clerk and a member of the trustee board, a capella choir, higher ground and pulpit committees.

According to family members, she enjoyed canning, cooking, traveling, shopping and crossword puzzles “to keep her mind sharp.” They described her as a “remarkable, loving, caring and gifted Christian woman” who was “a role model to all who knew and loved her.”

Ms. Teague is survived by her husband; two brothers, William and Carl James, both of Riverhead; two sisters, Doris James of Dover and Betty Ruth of Riverhead; and a large extended family.

Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at Calvary Baptist Church in Dover. Seay Memorial Chapel of Riverhead assisted with local arrangements.
