Riverhead students offered grief counseling after employee’s death

Grief counselors have been made available at Riverhead schools after the sudden death of a custodial worker at Riverhead High School this weekend.

The employee was not mentioned by name in a statement issued by superintendent Nancy Carney Tuesday morning.

“I want to express the condolences and sympathies to his family and friends at this tragic time,” Ms. Carney said. “The passing of a co-worker is always tragic … we ask that members of the public and the media respect the privacy of the grieving family.”

No other information was available. One former schools employee said the worker was 30 years old.
