George J. Teuber

Longtime Riverhead resident George J. Teuber of Palm Bay, Fla., died Nov. 11 at Vitas Hospice in Merritt Island, Fla. He was 83.

He was born in Riverhead March 18, 1928, the youngest of John and Amelia (Cihlar) Teuber’s nine children. He attended Riverhead public schools, graduating from Riverhead High School in 1945.

He married Anna Janichen on Nov. 27, 1949, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Mr. Teuber worked for Newsday for 37 years, retiring as circulation manager.

According to his wife of nearly 62 years, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and loved birds and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Moose Lodge and a longtime member of the Flanders Men’s Club.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Teuber is survived by his children, Timothy and Stanley, both of Palm Bay, Fla., Ralph, of Riverhead, Vincent, of St. Joseph, Mo., Elaine Hotcaveg of Waynesboro, Va., and Julie O’Brien of Knoxville, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister and seven brothers.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
