The Town of Riverhead must have found itself on the nice list this year, as Old Saint Nick will be coming around again for the 12th annual bonfire gathering on Saturday, Dec. 10.

The bonfire and caroling start sat 4 p.m. in the Peconic riverfront parking lot off East Main Street. Santa will arrive by boat about 5 p.m. to light the town Christmas tree and pose for pictures with children.

Residents are encouraged to bring chairs and a thermos full of a warm beverage.

Last year, the downtown Riverhead event, sponsored by Riverhead Town and downtown’s Business Improvement District, drew some 200 people to the riverfront park.

The massive fire spanned some 30 feet and provided warmth for kids who lined up eagerly for a meeting with Santa Claus.
