Police: Laurel man hospitalized, Mattituck man arrested in bar fight
A Mattituck man is facing an assault charge after he knocked a Laurel man unconscious outside the Broken Down Valise pub in Mattituck early Thursday, Southold Town Police said.
Police arrived on the scene and found Brendan Bishop, 29, of Laurel laying outside the Pike Street bar unconscious about 4:30 a.m.
Police said Mr. Bishop had started a fight with another patron and Zachary Pileski, 21, of Mattituck tried to break it up. While trying to stop the fight, Mr. Pileski struck Mr. Bishop in the face so hard that Mr. Bishop lost consciousness and fell face first on the pavement, police said.
Mr. Bishop was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. Police did not release his condition.
Mr. Pileski was charged with third-degree assault.
