Police hunt Riverhead Middle School burglars

Riverhead police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two people who broke into Riverhead Middle School and swiped a cash register and a fire extinguisher on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Police have released photos of the suspects taken from the school’s surveillance cameras.

The men — one wearing a hoodie and the other a leather jacket — accessed the Harrison Avenue building by smashing two cafeteria windows with a brick. They also broke a back door near the cafeteria’s stage area. Once inside, they stole swiped the school property and took off with an unknown amount of cash, officials said.

The suspects were caught on camera trying to gain access to the school.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
