Katherine Jane Turpin

Katherine Jane Turpin was born on Aug. 14, 1953, in Riverhead, N.Y., to John and Louvinia Ford. Jane entered into her eternal rest at Peconic Bay Medical Center on Nov. 24, 2011.

Jane attended high school in Mattituck, N.Y. There she earned her license in cosmetology. Upon graduating, she began working at Hazeltine Corporation in Riverhead, N.Y. Later she began her career at the Riverhead Care Center. Jane was a faithful employee there for over 30 years and was loved by both staff and residents.

Jane accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. Although she was not ordained, her evangelistic abilities led her to speak and show her love for the Lord in everything that she did and everywhere that she went.

Jane was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cutchogue, where she served on the Deaconess, Missionary and Trustee board and as chairperson of youth activities. Following the passing of her beloved Aunt Viola, Jane continued the legacy that her aunt and her mother started by organizing the Candle Light service for Easter.

Jane loved to express her love for the Lord in song. She served as past director of the CCCs and was a member and former president of the Fulford Ensemble. To further share her gift with others, she sang for many years in the Harvest Gospel Choir, with The Gospelettes and with Jus B’ Cuz.

In May 1984, Jane entered into holy matrimony with Richard Lee Turpin. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Thomas Ford.

Jane leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Richard Turpin of Selden, N.Y.; her daughter, Lakisha Darden of Aquebogue, N.Y.; her sister, Darlene Wilson (husband, Kerry) of Eatontown, N.J.; her brother, Kevin Ford (wife, Alethia) of Laurel, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Lydia Ford of Bloomfield, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Christian, Semaya, Surrayah and Ezekiel; nephews Corey, Trevor (wife, Allyson), Brandon and Jamus; one great-niece, Jayla; three uncles, Robuster Strickland (wife, Hazel) of Phoenix, Ariz., Herman Strickland of Stuart, Va., and George Hubbard (wife, Brenda) of Jamaica, N.Y.; three aunts, Alice Hicks of Tampa, Fla., Ruth Hubbard (husband, James) of Peconic, N.Y., and Lillian Jones of Riverhead, N.Y.; and a host of relatives and friends.

Viewing was held Thursday, Dec. 1, at First Baptist Church in Cutchogue. Homegoing services were held there on Friday, Dec. 2, by the Rev. Cornelius Fulford. Interment was at Cutchogue Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
