In the Wading River Fire District, challenger John McManus defeated incumbent Ed Frost by a vote of 180 to 122.
Mr. McManus had served as a commissioner from 1997 to 2003 but stepped down when he moved out of the district. He has since moved back, having retired from the Suffolk County Police Department.
In the Jamesport fire District, there were two seats opening up.
The race to the remaining four years of the term of Ed Collins, who died earlier this year, pitted Leroy Anthony against John J. Apicello. Mr. Anthony won, with 73 votes to
Mr. Apicello’s 67, and one vote was cast for Paul Golanec.
Those ballots were counted three times, officials said, with the same results each time.
In the race for the five-year term being vacated by incumbent John Andrejack, Thomas Brady was running unopposed and received 124 votes. There also were nine votes cast for department member Paul Higgins and one vote cast for former commissioner Chuck Thomas, officials said.
In the Riverhead Fire District, incumbent Bill Kelly was unopposed and received 69 of the 73 votes cast. Former Commissioner James Hogan and former chief Kevin Davis each received one vote while two blank votes were cast, according to officials.
In the Flanders Fire District, incumbent Brian Williams was unopposed and received 17 votes, with the other two votes being void, according to officials there.
