The Riverhead Women’s Club annual holiday party was held at Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue Friday afternoon.

The special guest was Margaret Ballon of Smithtown, president of the Long Island Federation of Women’s Clubs.

There are 38 clubs in Nassau and Suffolk counties. She said the clubs’ mission is “to enhance the lives of the women with social activities in the community and do some charitable works.”

Pastor Led Baxter welcomed the club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary next year.

Club president Joan Davis announced the entertainment: organists George Schoenberg, a dramatic reader Jenny Corbin, violinists Larry Scudder of Cambridge, Mass. and Aquebogue Elementary School music teacher Marguerite Volonts.

They performed in the sanctuary, which dates to 1862. Refreshments were served in the community hall downstairs.
