Robert Baker, known as Bobby, died suddenly Dec. 9 at his home in Aquebogue. He was 57.
He was born March 31, 1954, in Riverhead, and at the age of 14 he started working on cars. As he got older he went into his own machine shop and started his business. He also drove his own race car, No. 37, in the late model division at Riverhead Raceway.
Mr. Baker is survived by his parents, Ida and Larry Shelanski; his sister, Karen O’Neal, and his brother, Mark Shelanski. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Grace Pantaleo, in 1991.
Visiting hours took place Dec. 11 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, where Father Larry Duncklee also conducted a service. Cremation was private.
