Riverhead drama club to perform ‘Grease Jr., Go Greased Lightning’

The Riverhead Middle School drama club Middle Masques will perform “Grease JR, Go Greased Lightning” beginning 7 p.m. tonight in the school’s cafetorium at 600 Harrison Ave.

About 50 students take part in the production, which is directed by special education teacher Edward Tholl. Scenery was painted by BOCES teacher assistant Kathy Muth.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. They can purchased from the producer Pat Skura at the school at 369-6767. Other performances are 2 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Jan. 27 and 2 p.m. Jan. 28.

Grease is a 1971 musical by Jim Jacons and Warren Casey. Set in 1959, the musical follows 10 working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of love, cars and drive-ins. The abridged version features suitable content for teens while maintaining the fun-loving spirit and immortal songs that make it a classic.
