Monday Briefing: Get ready for the Egg McMuffin of Super Bowls

Champagne breath.

A lot of folks in Riverhead might have it this morning after the Giants NFC championship win undoubtedly sent fans scrambling to their refrigerators and grabbing that last bottle of New Year’s Eve bubbly that never got popped.

Who would have thunk it?

Sunday night’s game mimicked the team’s season in a lot of ways. The Giants hit their stride and got their breaks right when it counted most, toward the end. Let’s see if they could keep it going in the Super Bowl; we all know the Patriots will be out for blood after the Giants upset them — and destroyed what could have been a perfect, undefeated season — in the 2007 Super Bowl.

You thought Tebow-mania ruled the airwaves? We’re about to experience two weeks of what could be the most-hyped Super Bowl in our lifetimes. Enjoy it.

• Off Main, the NYC-style market and deli — and my sometimes office — that opened this summer on Osborn Avenue was featured in Newsday last week. In case you missed it, here’s the link. Off Main’s owners, Kayleigh and Tahir Baig, were also the News-Review’s co-Business People of the Year for 2011.

Earlier this month, Tahir told longtime News-Review photographer and Polish Town resident Barbaraellen Koch that his business saw a bump after the News-Review award was announced. I’m hoping the Newsday feature will drive even more locals into Off Main.

Heading there now? I would suggest the Off Main breakfast sandwich. It’s the Egg McMuffin of breakfast sandwiches, only a million times better than an Egg McMuffin. (This is a reference to McDonald’s latest ad campaign.)

Oh, and Off Main also caters, just in case you’re planning that perfect party for the perfect Super Bowl match up.

• Aside from watching football I had a busy weekend fixing stuff around the house. Meanwhile, Suffolk Times editor Tim Kelly and News-Review reporter Tim Gannon manned the shop, posting stories and photos at RiverheadNewsReview.com throughout Saturday and Sunday. But I checked in a lot, and was glad to see readers did submit, as requested, snow photos for a slide show we posted this morning.

Still have some snow photos you want to share? Email them to me. Last year we ran a reader photo on the cover of the newspaper.
