Joseph E. Brooks of Aquebogue died Jan. 31 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 69.
He was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Cornwall, N.Y., to Josephine (Grocke) and Joseph Brooks. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a supervisor at the Long Island Lighting Company (now LIPA) in Riverhead.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the American Legion in Riverhead. Family members said he loved cars, football, the ocean and all animals, particularly cats.
Predeceased by his wife, Linda Mapes-Brooks, he is survived by his children, Mellissa Wicklund-Valente and Edward, both of Mattituck, and Scott, of Colorado; his sister, Joan Wright of California; and three grandchildren.
Visiting hours will take place Thursday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery.
