Video: Maureen’s Haven opens new homeless day center

BARBARAELLEN KOCH PHOTO | Maureen' s Haven executive director Tracey Lutz adresses the guests Thursday afternoon at the open house.

Maureen’s Haven, a non-profit organization that provides temporary overnight shelter for homeless adults, cut the ribbon at its new day center location on Lincoln Street in Riverhead Thursday.

The new day center comes during the organization’s 10th season of service.

“We were on East Main Street in an office complex that just wasn’t suited to our needs,” said executive director Tracey Lutz. “We needed some open space.”

The location is now about a block away from Riverhead’s train station, where Ms. Lutz said it’s more convenient for guests to access buses that take them to and from one of the 17 local congregations that provide food and shelter.
