3rd Riverhead High student wins ROTC scholarship

NEWS-REVIEW FILE PHOTO | The Riverhead NJROTC program has never seen three military scholarships awarded in the same year, school officials say.

Another Riverhead High School NJROTC cadet is heading off to college on a huge scholarship from a U.S. Armed Forces branch, school officials announced Monday.

Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Cadet Edward Steven Krusczon has been nominated for an Air Force ROTC scholarship of up to $180,000 (depending on the cost of the school) and will be speaking  in uniform at a press event this afternoon, officials said.

He’s planning to attend Norwich University in Northfield, Vt.

The announcement comes on the heels of news earlier this year that students Amanda Gallo and Brian Weinhardt each received awards that can reach $180,000 from the U.S. Navy.

School officials described the recent award as the same scholarship, just through a different branch of the military.

“This is the highest number of ROTC scholarships awarded in one year in the history of the program,” school officials said in a press release.
