Cops: Would-be gas station robber arrested in Jamesport

A Nassau County man is being held on $50,000 bail after his arrest earlier today for trying to hold up a Jamesport gas station, police said.

Police said Devin Poole, 21, of Rosyln Heights, approached at attendant at the Valero gas station in Jamesport shortly after 1:20 Saturday morning and demanded money. When the attendant refused, Mr. Poole reportedly stunned him several times with a stun gun while reaching into the attendant’s pockets. After a struggle, Mr. Poole fled without any money, according to police.

Responding to a 911 call, the Riverhead Police canine unit found a man coming out of the woods at the corner of White Birch Court and South Jamesport Avenue in South Jamesport, according to reports. The attendant then identified the man as the assailant and a stun gun was found in his possession, said police.

Mr. Poole was charged with first-degree attempted robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and placed in the county jail following his arraignment before Town Justice Allen Smith,
